Antecedentes:

Nowadays it is widely recognized that not only biological sex but as well gender influences the presentation of symptoms, the severity of illness, the response to treatments (not only to drugs) and even the risk of developing some diseases. However, in medicine and health science this perspective has been traditionally neglected. At the european consortium, Gender Outcomes INternational Group: to Further Well-being Development (GOING-FWD), we applied a multidimensional gender-based framework in order to understand how health outcomes can be, directly or indirectly, determined by sex and gender factors.

Métodos:

To coordinate different basic (preclinical) and clinical researchers in order to analyse the differences between men and women in chronic diseases. To disseminate the application of gender measurements with a personalized perspective. To establish several approaches (with a gender perspective) for prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases. To apply and disseminate the obteined results.

Resultados:

When evaluating clinical outcomes, biological sex and gender are crucial even if it is a complex field and some individual factors are always present.

Conclusiones:

The aim of this proposal is to analyse sex and gender-related determinants of health in different systems in order to consolidate and get a better life and well-being for all in chronic diseases, mainly in elderly people.
